It’s been over a year since we heard anything about Svalta, the serial killer thriller from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz star Nick Frost, but today comes an official announcement that XYZ Films, Wayward Entertainment and Resolute Films have wrapped production on the film after shooting in Finland.
Written by Frost and directed by Steffen Haars (New Kids Turbo), Svalta also stars Irish comedian Aisling Bea (This Way Up) and Heartstopper‘s Sebastian Croft, with newcomer Maisie Ayres rounding out the lead cast.
Here’s the plot synopsis, via an official press release:
Svalta follows a family on their summer vacation to a remote island where they discover a serial killer is on the loose. Unfortunately for them the locals have no interest in helping the stranded family. The title is taken from the name of the fictional island.ย
Speaking with Deadline previously, Frost teased some of the chaos that we assume the chilly Svalta will bring: “Take a gentle English family and send them on holiday to a tiny island full of maniacs. Simple. Not so much Nuts In May. More โNuts in Mayhemโ.”
Previously, it was reported that Lena Headey was set to star along Frost (in what would be a reteam after the pair starred in 2019’s Fighting With My Family), but Deadline have today reported that, due to scheduling conflicts, the Game of Thrones star had to step back from the project.
Post-production on Svalta is now underway in the United Kingdom, and while there’s no news as of yet on a release date, we’ll bring you all the updates as and when we get them!
