Excellent news today for people who like excellent things: Blood Relatives, a vampire-road-trip-horror-comedy written, directed by and starring Noah Segan (Knives Out, Looper) hits Shudder today!
The film, which is currently rocking a 93% over on Rotten Tomatoes, screened to an overwhelmingly positive response at this year’s Fantastic Fest and Beyond Fest, and tells the story of an aging vampire (Segan) whose life on the road is interrupted by the unexpected arrival of his daughter (Victoria Moroles), who has a lot of questions for her absentee father … and who may be wrestling with a few vampiric impulses of her own.
Horror comedies are notoriously difficult to pull off: go too far in one direction, and you’ve made something goofy; go too far in the other direction, and the scares (or gore!) outweigh the gags. Blood Relatives manages to nail the balance perfectly, landing right between those two genres while delivering a genuinely heartfelt story about fatherhood in the process.

We’ve been beating the drum about this one ever since Team FANGORIA caught (and loved) the film at Fantastic Fest, and are excited for everyone with a Shudder subscription (you do have a Shudder subscription, don’t you?) to give it a whirl. Even if you’re feeling burnt out on vampires in general, we can all but guarantee you’ve never seen a vampire movie quite like this one.
Stay tuned for more on Blood Relatives as further updates become available.
