Baby Ruby, the upcoming feature debut from playwright Bess Wohl, has had its first trailer delivered today in an IndieWire exclusive.
Baby Ruby, which stars Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Noémie Merlant (TÁR) and Meredith Hagner (Brightburn), premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival to positive reviews. According to IndieWire, the film centers on
‘…Jo (Merlant), a successful lifestyle entrepreneur who is happily pregnant, awaiting the arrival of her first child. But soon after Jo welcomes baby Ruby home, something starts to feel off, even she’s assured it’s all perfectly normal. Is something wrong with her? Is something wrong with Ruby? And why are the seemingly perfect neighborhood moms so desperate to befriend her?’
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Harington revealed that he felt particularly drawn to Wohl’s script as a new parent himself, while Merlant revealed that there are ‘a lot of risks in this movie, a lot of scenes that I have never seen really unpacked the way [Wohl] talks about motherhood.’ From the trailer, it certainly looks like this is one particularly malevolent take on motherhood.
Baby Ruby premieres in theaters and VOD February 3 via Magnet Releasing. Check out the official trailer and poster below, courtesy of IndieWire;
