According to a new report at Variety, Noomi Rapace and Hunter Schafer will headline Palette, the feature directorial debut of one Zach Strauss. Directed from his own Black List-approved screenplay, Strauss’ film is an odd-sounding psychological thriller with one helluva logline.
Says Variety:
โPalette follows Dolly (Schafer), ‘a woman suffering from extreme synesthesia, a rare condition where she is able to hear colors…’ She is soon recruited into a secretive, cult-like industry of color design, uncovering the dark reality of what it takes to make the worldโs greatest hues.'”
Rapace, who’s certainly no stranger to the horror genre (see also: Prometheus, The Monitor, and Lamb), will play the “enigmatic executive” running the company that Schafer’s Dolly gets drawn into, and we’re guessing she’s got some sinister secrets up her sleeve.
Says Strauss:
โI feel beyond lucky to be making this dark and twisted movie with a truly exceptional cast and with such incredible partners in Anton. I know weโre going to create something really special.โ
Adds producer John Zois:
โZach has crafted such a compelling and completely distinctive script. We are putting together a team that will bring the stunning visuals of the story to the screen. Hunter and Noomi are truly perfect for our two leads and I cannot wait to see them bring these rich and unique characters to life. We could not be more excited about this film.”
At present, there’s no indication when we might actually get to see Palette (Variety’s report mentions that the worldwide rights to the film will be up for grabs at Berlin’s European Film Market, where potential buyers will be shown a “sizzle reel” from Strauss’ film), but we’re very intrigued by the premise here and the talent Strauss was able to attract with his script. Stay tuned for more on Palette as further updates become available, folks!
