Urban Legend is 25 years old this year and is one of the fan-favorite 90s teen slasher movies. It was directed by Jamie Blanks and written by Silvio Horta, who went on to adapt the hugely popular Ugly Betty from the Mexican television series and is no longer with us. Horror director Christopher Landon, Freaky, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, and the upcoming Scream 7, remembered Horta today on Twitter and said that he was a person he misses and a devastating loss for the entertainment community. The film's director, Jamie Blanks, also posted a remembrance of Horta. Let's remember Horta, celebrate the movie, and enjoy the work of the other creators of the film and the actors in the cool cast: Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart, Joshua Jackson, Loretta Devine, Tara Reid, Michael Rosenbaum, Brad Dourif, and Robert Englund who starred in this hilarious and gory film this week. Image Credit, IMDB

Popcorn is an entertaining slasher that stars Jill Schoelen, Tom Villard, Dee Wallace Stone, Derek Rydall, and Ray Walston. It was directed by Mark Herrier and concerns some students holding a fundraiser in a theater that will be demolished in three weeks. Maggie Butler (Schoelen) is tormented by dreams of a girl named Sarah, who is pursued by a killer. The killer's murders seem centered around a short film called Possessor. You'll recognize that name if you are a fan of Brandon Cronenberg's work. Read more: The Color Of Horror: 5 Horror Films With Excellent Use Of Color.

  • Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)

Halloween H20: 20 Years Later is more of a serious slasher but does have some fun elements. It has a cast full of actors you will now recognize: Jamie Lee Curtis, Michelle Williams, Janet Leigh, Josh Hartnett, in his film debut, LL Cool J, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. It's possibly your only opportunity to see Adam Arkin killed by Michael Myers. Whoops, spoiler. But this film does have the 90s flavor of a slightly irreverent tone.

  • Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)

Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare was scripted by Michael De Luca, studio executive at New Line Cinema, and directed by Rachel Talalay. The movie was critically savaged upon release, and it was pretty odd. It puts an end to Freddy Krueger, as the title implies. It turns out Krueger was married and had a daughter before being caught after his murders. It features several cameos from actors like Tom Arnold, Roseanne Barr, Alice Cooper, and studio head Bob Shaye as a movie ticket taker. It's bizarre, so that's probably why critics were not kind to it. Read more: 1, 2, We've Got The First 5 Minutes Of Fredheads: The Documentary For You.

  • Dr. Giggles (1992)

Dr. Giggles stars Larry Drake as the title madman and giggling amateur doctor. It also stars Holly Marie Combs as Jennifer Campbell, Cliff DeYoung as Tom Campbell, and Glenn Quinn as Max Anderson. Quinn played the beloved character Allen Francis Doyle on the supernatural spin-off of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel. Cuban-American director Manny Coto directed the film. It's really something. Drake has a flair for playing someone entirely out of his mind.

  • I've Been Waiting for You (1998)

I've Been Waiting for You is a television movie that stars Sarah Chalke, Soleil Moon Frye, Ben Foster, and Markie Post, directed by Christopher Leitch. Lawrence laid a curse on the families of the most prominent families in the town, who had her burned, and a rhyme exists that foretells the return of Sarah for vengeance. At the same time, a masked killer starts to murder the children of those families who call themselves the Descendants Club. There's witchcraft and a killer on the loose at the same time!

  • I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)

I Know What You Did Last Summer is a classic, and with the urban legend adjacent accident that sets the killer in motion, it has a lot in common with Urban Legend. It also stars some of the 90s' most well-known young actors, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Freddie Prinze Jr., Johnny Galecki, and Bridgette Wilson. The killer is a fisherman who wears a bright yellow rain slicker and wields a fishing hook. It's one of the best examples of campy 90s and close to the Urban Legend aesthetic. • Idle Hands (1999)

Idle Hands is a gruesome slasher horror comedy with a killer hand and a dude who just doesn't know how to stop it from hurting everyone he knows. The hand raises a body count before Anton (Devon Sawa) realizes what is happening. The film also stars Seth Green, Elden Henson, Jessica Alba, and Vivica A. Fox. It seems that Anton's hand is possessed by an evil spirit, which makes it necessary for him to remove it from his body. It's a bit like Ash and his hand problem in Evil Dead, so it works in a similar horror-comedy vein.

  • The Clown at Midnight (1999)

The Clown at Midnight is another tale of a young woman plagued by nightmares. This time, the dreams center around her mother's death, an opera singer, Lorraine Sedgewick, whom her co-star purportedly murdered. For some reason, Kate Williams is convinced to help restore the opera house by her best friend Monica. This doesn't seem like the wisest idea, but this is a horror movie. The film is in the grand tradition of Canucksploitation and stars Sarah Lassez, James Duval, Tatyana Ali, Margot Kidder, and Christopher Plummer. Did I mention that there's a killer clown? No? Well, there is one.

  • Lovers Lane (1999)

Lovers Lane is an independently produced horror movie about a killer, a maniac who uses a hook to terrorize and kill his victims, much like the old urban legend. It stars Erin Dean, Riley Smith, Sarah Lancaster, and Anna Faris in an early role. The murders were committed on Valentine's Day on the local lover's lane, and the sheriff's wife was one of the victims of The Hook. 13 years later, The Hook has returned and is intent on killing the children of his previous victims.

  • Strangeland (1998)

Strangeland is a horror film written by and starring rock star Dee Snider. It's as strange as the name implies and has early use of the Internet as a plot point because the killer, named Captain Howdy, uses the Internet to lure his teenage victims. Of course, Captain Howdy refers to the name that Regan gives the demon who possesses her and contacts her through an Ouija board. Captain Howdy is a schizophrenic man named Carlton Hendricks. Snider's rockstar presence as the killer gives this film its campy factor. It also stars Linda Cardellini, Kevin Gage, Elizabeth Peรฑa, and Robert Englund.
