The good folks at Entertainment Weekly have a very interesting report on Michael Sarnoski’s A Quiet Place: Day One today, one which reveals two new pics from the forthcoming prequel while telling quite a bit more about its characters than we’ve known previously. Yes, it’s a prequel to John Krasinski’s original A Quiet Place, and yes, we know it takes place on the day that the franchise’s fearsome, noise-hating aliens descend upon the Earth, but who will they be hunting?

Let’s find out!

Lupita Nyong’o plays Sam (her cat’s name? Frodo), a woman whose day trip to New York City just happens to coincide with the film’s alien invasion. Here she meets Eric (Joseph Quinn, seen above with Nyong’o), and the two are compelled to join forces in order to navigate their newly deadly surroundings.

While Nyong’o and Quinn’s characters are new to the franchise, Djimon Hounsou reprises his role from A Quiet Place: Part II. Entertainment Weekly’s report says that it remains unclear how Hounsou’s character gets from A Quiet Place: Day One to that remote island colony in A Quiet Place Part II, but we’re eager to find out.

Head on over to Entertainment Weekly to read more from Nyong’o and Quinn about their characters, alongside a story from Nyong’o about how working with Frodo the cat turned her into a “cat person” by the time A Quiet Place: Day One finished shooting.

A Quiet Place: Day One hits theaters on June 28th. Stay tuned for plenty more about this one as further updates roll in, gang!
