Legendary Japanese director Takashi Miike is famous for his provocative and shocking scenes, notably in 1999’s Audition, and 2001’s Visitor Q and Ichi the Killer. Miike’s filmography is nothing if not incredibly varied though, with family-friendly comedies such as Ninja Kids!!! nestled among titles such as One Missed Call and As The God’s Will.
Earlier this month, Variety reported that the subversive director has once again kept us on our toes by teaming up with Disney+ to release Connect, a 6-part series that’s due to debut at the Busan International Film Festival in the Onscreen Section on October 6th – 7th.
According to Variety, the Korean-language crime fantasy thriller will follow:
“…a man who is kidnapped and has one of his eyes removed by a gang of organ harvesters and transplanted into the body of a notorious serial killer. The unwilling donor now has terrible visions as he witnesses terrifying attacks on the residents of Seoul.”
Connect stars Jung Hae-in (Snowdrop), Go Kyung-pyo (Decision to Leave) and Kim Hye-jun (Sinkhole). The series is based off of a Korean webtoon of the same name from 2020.
While we don’t have an English-language trailer for Connect just yet, from the looks of the Korean trailer we’re in for a gory, gruesome mindfuck of a series – but we wouldn’t expect anything less than the man behind Masters of Horror’s most controversial episode.
