Deadites will head to the theater in droves

During a San Diego Comic-Con chat with Comic Book Resources, Bruce Campbell revealed test screenings for Evil Dead Rise have gone quite well, which led to speculation that the movie would hit theaters, possibly even later this year. And you were right about that theatrical release, deadites! Lots of shifts happening over at Warner Bros. and HBO Max, resulting in some titles being scrapped with no hope they’ll see the light of day any time in the near future. We’re just happy this title isn’t shelved and will be ready for our eyeballs on the big screen. We’ll have to wait a little beyond fall to catch this one, but given the alternative of not having access to it at all, we’ll happily wait. According to Deadline, the latest installment in the Evil Dead franchise is now scheduled to be released on April 21, 2023.

Evil Dead Rise director, Lee Cronin shared the news via Twitter, sharing his sweet crew hat.

Warner Brothers’ Salem’s Lot and Last Train To Busan were previously slated for that April 21, 2023 release date. Both titles have since been announced as delayed, with no new solid release date announced. Evil Dead Rise stars Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan, Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, and Mia Challis. No Bruce Campbell as Ash Williams this time around, but Campbell is on board as a producer, with Lee Cronin directing.

Here’s the official synopsis for Evil Dead Rise, “In the fifthย Evil Deadย film, a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A. apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
