Tilman Singer's CUCKOO
Tilman Singer's CUCKOO

Today brings us the first trailer for Tilman Singer’s Cuckoo, which has been generating quite the buzz on the festival circuit as of late. Anyone who’s seen Singer’s Luz (2018) can tell you that this is a filmmaker who marches very much to the beat of his own drum, and from the looks of things, that will continue with Cuckoo.

Let’s take a look…

Yup, that’s a Tilman Singer jam, alright. Looks to be a little less surreal than Luz, perhaps, but there’s still plenty of weirdness going on here … and, by all accounts (from those who’ve been lucky enough to catch this one already), that’s exactly what we’re gonna get.

Cuckoo stars Hunter Schafer (Euphoria), Dan Stevensย (The Guest),ย Jessica Henwickย (Underwater),ย Marton Csรณkรกsย (Freelance),ย Greta Fernรกndezย (Santo) andย Jan Bluthardtย (Luz). Written and directed by Singer, the film tells the following tale:

“Reluctantly, 17-year-old Gretchen leaves her American home to live with her father, who has just moved into a resort in the German Alps with his new family. Arriving at their future residence, they are greeted by Mr. Kรถnig, her fatherโ€™s boss, who takes an inexplicable interest in Gretchenโ€™s mute half-sister Alma. Something doesnโ€™t seem right in this tranquil vacation paradise. Gretchen is plagued by strange noises and bloody visions until she discovers a shocking secret that also concerns her own family.โ€

This is just one of several high-profile and heavily buzzed-about horror releases from NEON this year, including the recently released Immaculate and this summer’s Longlegs. So far, NEON has been knocking the marketing out of the park on these releases, and Cuckoo is no exception. This thing looks utterly bonkers and we cannot wait to check it out.

When can we do that? A bit later in the summer – August 9th, to be precise. This means we’ve probably got at least one more trailer and a few more teases to look forward to, so do stay tuned for further updates on Cuckoo as they roll in (and, hey, in the meantime: go watch Luz).
