Only one survives: the final showdown between Michael and Laurie will soon be with us.

David Gordon Green’s Halloween Ends, the trilogy-capping entry in Blumhouse’s extremely successful run of new Michael Myers slashers, will hit theaters (and Peacock) on October 14th. A mere six weeks away! You might be tempted to think that Green and company have already gone pencils down on the film, but Empire’s got a new interview with the director which suggests otherwise.

Says Green:

It changes every day. In theory, the picture is locked, but this morning I called the editor and said, โ€˜What if we do this one thingโ€ฆโ€™ย

I speak with John [Carpenter] and Jamie Lee Curtis regularly about it. Itโ€™s exciting, uncertain, satisfying, and sad. Iโ€™ve enjoyed the ride but itโ€™s probably time to get off. I think weโ€™re gonna go out with a bang.

This is, quite frankly, a staggering thing to hear if you’re anything like me, an anxiety-ridden dope who arrives half an hour early to the location of literally every social gathering for fear of being late. “What if you keep tinkering only to end up unleashing a whole new set of unexpected problems?!” my brain screams. David Gordon Green is possessed of no such cowardice, and will continue futzing with the film’s third act until they get it right.

If nothing else, it sounds like they’re close:

If our second film was free-for-all, violent chaos, this is a more intimate, atmospheric conclusion.

We are, of course, very excited to see how Halloween Ends plays out, and will be there with bells on come opening day (at the theater, too; gotta show the proper respect to Michael Myers here, seems like the polite thing to do). While we’re waiting on that day to arrive, make sure you pick up your copy of FANGORIA Magazine’s latest issue, which puts Halloween Ends and its two iconic starts right on the dang cover, where they belong.
