With The Last of Us racking up an astounding number of viewers for HBO and a brand-new Silent Hill movie headed our way, horror game adaptations are having something of a moment. And now, according to a new report over at Variety, it looks like we have another one headed our way.

Says Variety:

“Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are teaming up with Behaviour Interactive, the largest Canadian gaming studio, to develop a feature film adaptation of the hit horror multiplayer game, Dead by Daylight.โ€

Yes, that’s right, Behavior Interactive’s 2016 survival-horror title Dead by Daylight is headed to the screen, with James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Jason Blumhouse’s, uh, Blumhouse joining forces to get the job done.

For anyone who’s not played Dead by Daylight, it’s a multiplayer survival-horror game, with one player taking on the role of a deranged killer and the other players doing their best to survive against them. These killers come in many different forms (including some notable horror icons, who’ve appeared as playable characters in the game via DLC packs), and hunt the other players until only one is left standing. It’s anyone’s guess as to what this material might look like translated into a feature film, but we’re certainly curious to find out what they’ve come up with.

Says Jason Blum:

โ€œWe know there are so many fans of Dead by Daylight out there and think itโ€™s imperative we find someone who appreciates and loves the world as much as we do, to help us bring the game to the big screen. We know our partners at Behaviour and Atomic Monster will help us bring the best version of this game to life.โ€ย

Adds Atomic Monster’s James Wan:

โ€œIn Dead by Daylight, the Behaviour team has created a love letter to the world of horror, building an incredible environment teeming with atmosphere and terrifying villains โ€” perfect for a scary cinematic adaptation. Weโ€™re big fans of the game at Atomic Monster, and are thrilled to be teaming up with Blumhouse to bring this frighteningly visceral world to the big screen.โ€

Alright, so no clues in there as to what shape this film might take, but rest assured we’ll have updates for you just as soon as they start rolling in. Nothing further to report at this time (and don’t expect any for a while: as Blum points out above, this project is still on the hunt for a writer and director), but stay tuned for more as those updates roll in!
