The folks at Jaw Drop Games have revealed a new trailer for the upcoming dinosaur horror game Deathground, and it looks like the Jurassic Park video game we’ve deserved for a long, long time. While this certainly isn’t affiliated with the franchise, the folks at Universal, and perhaps Steven Spielberg, could take some notes. This, by all appearances, is how it’s done. Check it out.
It’s an admittedly short trailer, which debuted during this year’s Gamescom event, but one that does more than enough to let players know what they’re in for. Feathered, terrifying dinosaurs stalking you in what looks like Alien: Isolation by way of a Friday the 13th: The Game, only with prehistoric beasts instead of Jason Voorhees stalking you. Yes, please! The creature design is super impressive, the kills are bloody, and it looks incredibly tense. The official description of the game reads as follows:
“Deathground is a solo and co-op survival horror game that throws players into a desperate battle for survival against deadly AI dinosaurs. Enter the Deathground with a team of up to 3 players for squad-based action or attempt to survive alone in a solo session.”
Jaw Drop Games began developing the game officially back in 2020 after launching a successful Kickstarter campaign. We’ve had some updates since then, but it seems like the game is getting closer than ever to actually getting released. No word yet on what the price is going to be, but it is listed on the Steam store. It’s amazing what an indie studio has been able to accomplish, when Universal, with all of the might of a major studio, for some reason, hasn’t contracted a AAA game studio to do something like this with the Jurassic franchise. Why? Dear reader, I’m sure I do not know. But fortunately, other developers are trying to fill the void, with Hashbane also working hard to bring Instinction our way next year as well.
The only perceivable downside is that the game, at least at first, will only be available on PC via Steam. That’s the case with many independently produced games, but that doesn’t mean they can’t eventually be ported over to consoles. If this game ends up being as fun as it looks, it deserves the widest possible audience. Here’s hoping.
