At just 18 years old, transgender filmmaker Alice Maio Mackay is already one of the most exciting names in modern horror with four features already under her belt and a fifth one on the way – an as-of-now untitled queer Christmas horror that will delve into the world of true crime, ghosts and urban legends.

Trans actor and model Jeremy Moineau (seen below) will lead the festive horror, alongside Joe Romeo (Awoken, Firebite), Dominique Booth (Boogeyman Pop), Cassie Hamilton, Toshiro Glenn (Bad Girl Boogey) and Olivia Deeble (More Than This, Secret Society of Second-Born Royals).

The plot synopsis for Maio Mackay’s new feature reads as follows:

When true-crime podcaster and sleuth Lola visits her hometown at Christmas for the first time since running away and transitioning, the vengeful ghost of a historical murderer and urban legend seemingly arises to kill again. Lola must solve the case before her community is slaughtered. She’s up against not only a psychotic killer, but a town haunted by secrets.

Described as a “gut-wrenching story set in a mad and twisted world”, the upcoming feature was lensed by Aaron Schuppan with a script by Maio Mackay & Ben Pahl Robinson, production is scheduled to begin in August.

As a member of the trans community herself, Alice is dedicated to creating horror that reflects the real-life struggles of humanity through the power of allegory and uplifting the LGBTQ+ community. And if you thought five feature films at 18 was impressive, don’t forget that Alice started work on her first film, the Shudder exclusive So Vam, when she was just 16. Her second feature, Bad Girl Boogey (which features a cameo from horror legend Bill Moseley), has been acquired by Dark Star Pictures for a US summer release, hitting select cinemas, physical and TVOD release on June 4th. Her third feature, T Blockers, which features performances from Etcetera Etcetera, Cassie Workman, and Joni Ayton-Kent, recently premiered at last month’s Salem Horror Fest. Her fourth feature Satranic Panic led by Zarif and co-writer Cassie Hamilton is also in post-production.

Maio Mackay’s project is currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo, and you can follow Alice’s social media to keep up to date with the progress on Untitled Queer Christmas Horror!
