Emma Tammi’s Five Nights at Freddy’s is two months away from release (Blumhouse is putting it in theaters just before Halloween, a wise move), which means there’s still plenty of time for the film’s marketing department to do its thing. The next eight weeks will likely deliver all manner of Freddy’s ephemera – character posters, TV spots, viral marketing stunts, you name it – but today we’ve been given a brand-new trailer for Tammi’s video game adaptation.
Let’s take a look!
Not too shabby! Everything here feels of a piece with the storied game franchise that inspired Tammi’s film, from the grainy closed circuit TV footage to the cheesy interior of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza to the sinister animatronics that haunt its backrooms and hallways. The last few years have seen several movies attempt to do something very similar (The Banana Splits Movie, Wally’s Wonderland) but this one looks like it’ll end up being the sharpest of the bunch. Fingers crossed!
Here’s an official plot synopsis, via press release:
“Can you survive five nights? The terrifying horror game phenomenon becomes a blood-chilling cinematic event, as Blumhouseโ the producer of M3GAN, The Black Phone and The Invisible Manโ brings Five Nights at Freddyโs to the big screen. The film follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbearโs Pizza. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the night shift at Freddyโs wonโt be so easy to make it through.”
OK, so, not much to go on based on that synopsis, but we can glean from the trailer that Josh Hutcherson’s troubled security guard uncovers a plot involving murdered children whose ghosts have now taken up residence inside the animatronics that stalk the shadows of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. In addition to Hutcherson, Five Nights at Freddy’s also stars Matthew Lillard,ย Elizabeth Lail,ย Kat Conner Sterling,ย Piper Rubio, and – last, but certainly not least – the greatย Mary Stuart Masterson. It also stars a crew of evil animatronics brought to life by Jim Hensonโs Creature Shop!
Nothing further to report on Five Nights at Freddy’s at this time, but rest assured there’ll be plenty more to come between now and the film’s October 27th arrival in theaters. Stay tuned for further updates as they roll in, folks!
