Blumhouse put its full weight behind the marketing campaign for Jeff Wadlow’s Imaginary. It started with a hype-generating teaser trailer that took the unusual strategy of being an audio-only jam, continued its efforts with the standard issue round of posters and trailers, and eventually arrived at a place where they had Chauncey – the film’s spooky teddy bear character – granting interviews to outlets like, oh, FANGORIA.
If nothing else, the buzz was there … but then the film started screening for critics, and a vibe shift occurred. The film-reviewing press was not onboard with Wadlow’s latest (the film’s RT score remains at 25%), though some viewers found a bit more to enjoy about the film (audience score: 55%). Perhaps you saw all this taking place and opted out of seeing Imaginary in theaters. Perhaps you figured you’d get around to seeing it once it became available at home. Perhaps, if all that’s the case, we have good news for you.
According to a just-issued press release, Jeff Wadlow’s Imaginary will be available via VOD starting tomorrow. You can purchase it outright for $24.99, or you can choose to rent the film for $19.99 via Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, Vudu, and more. Will you end up siding with the critics, or finding a new underloved horror movie you can embrace as your own? Only one way way to find out, folks!
For those who need a reminder, here’s an official plot synopsis:
“When Jessica moves back into her childhood home with her family, her youngest stepdaughter, Alice, finds a stuffed bear named Chauncey. As Alice’s behavior becomes more and more concerning, Jessica intervenes only to realize that Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believed him to be.”
And, what the hell, here’s the trailer, one last time:
Nothing further to report on Blumhouse or Imaginary at this time, but do stay tuned for further updates as they roll in.
