We’ve been hyped as hell for a while for Fede Álvarez’s (Evil Dead) upcoming new Alien movie, even though we still don’t know a whole lot about it. What we do know today thanks to Deadline, is that Isabela Merced (Rosaline, Sweet Girl) has joined the cast.
Merced will be (presumably) hunting down Xenomorphs alongside Pacific Rim Uprising star Cailee Spaeny who we learned was starring late last year.
The upcoming Alien will be Merced’s first foray into the horror genre; she most recently appeared in Warner Bros.’ remake of Father of the Bride, and starred in the Netflix original thriller motion picture Sweet Girl opposite Jason Momoa.
These castings are pretty much all the info we have on Álvarez’s new project, which has simply been described as “an original standalone feature” (so, not a Covenant sequel), with other juicy details still tightly under wraps.
Ridley Scott, the man behind the original sci-fi/horror classic that started it all, is on board to produce the film by way of his Scott Free productions banner.
If you’re still dying for some more Alien news, don’t forget that we also have FX’s Alien television series coming soon from Fargo‘s Noah Hawley, which takes place on Earth and will not feature Ripley or any other characters from the franchise so far (except the Xenos, of course).
Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long for more Álvarez Alien news, but Merced’s casting is exciting news that’s just added to our keen anticipation for whatever the Don’t Breathe director has up his sleeve. Keep checking for more updates as we get them!
