We haven’t even had Halloween yet but we’re already hyped for Christmas – as today, Deadline have exclusively revealed that RLJE Films and Shudder have acquired rights to festive slasher Itโs a Wonderful Knife, from director Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls) and writer Michael Kennedy (Freaky).
The film is set to make its world premiere at L.A.โs Beyond Fest on October 8, before heading to theaters across the U.S. on November 10 and becoming available for streaming on Shudder at a later date.
It’s a Wonderful Knife stars Yellowjackets‘ Jane Widdop, Community‘s Joel McHale and scream king Justin Long (Barbarian, Tusk, Drag Me to Hell). Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps), Jess McLeod (One of Us Is Lying) and Cassandra Naud (Influencer) also co-star.
Deadline reports the plot synopsis as:
Billed as Itโs a Wonderful Life by way of Scream, the pic centers on Winnie Carruther (Widdop), who saves her town from a psychotic killer on Christmas Eve. A year later, her life is less than wonderful โ but when she wishes sheโd never been born, she finds herself in a nightmare parallel universe and discovers that without her, things could be much, much worse. Now, the killer is back, and she must team up with the town misfit to identify the killer and get back to her own reality.
Don’t forget, we bought you an exclusive quote from Michael Kennedy back when the news was first announced:
โI love Christmas movies and I love slasher movies. And Iโve always wanted to combine both. For me, thereโs no better way to do that than by honoring the classic Itโs A Wonderful Lifethrough the lens of blood, guts, and mayhem. Merry Christmas.โ
If you’re lucky enough to be heading to Beyond Fest, get It’s a Wonderful Knife on your screening list! If not, make sure you catch the festive frightener in theaters on November 10, and finally find out who this mysterious veiled figure is in our header image…
