The news that John Carpenter has a new score en route is always something to celebrate, but when it’s the score for a brand-new dark comedy from A24 that sounds utterly bonkers, it may well be worth throwing a goddamn parade.
According to the good folks over at Bloody Disgusting, Carpenter will compose the score for Death of a Unicorne, the debut feature from Alex Scharfman. Starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, the film concerns a father and daughter who “accidentally hit and kill a unicorn while en route to a weekend retreat,” where the father’s billionaire boss (played by Richard Grant) “seeks to exploit the creatureโs miraculous curative properties.โ
If that’s not intriguing enough, Death of a Unicorne is produced by Ari Aster, and also stars Tรฉa Leoni (Deep Impact), Will Poulter (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Anthony Carrigan (Bill & Ted Face the Music), Sunita Mani (M. Night Shyamalan’s Servant), Jessica Hynes (Shaun of the Dead), and Stephen Park (Asteroid City). Helluva cast on this thing!
Bloody Disgusting’s report goes on to mention that Death of a Unicorne has already wrapped production (apparently, it shot over the summer with a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement), which means this one’s already quite a ways down the road to being fully completed. Nothing further to report on Death of a Unicorne at this time, but we’re very excited about everything going on here (particularly that new Carpenter score!) and will keep you abreast of further updates as they roll in.
Stay tuned, folks.
