Teen pop sensation JoJo Siwa is set to star in upcoming horror-thriller All My Friends Are Dead from Saw 3D writer Marcus Dunstan, Deadline have revealed today.
Siwa will star alongside Jade Pettyjohn (Little Fires Everywhere) in the pic which is produced by John Baldecchi (Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2U). Dominic Ianno (Soul Surfer), Jason Resnick (Kidnap), and Kevin Greutert (Saw franchise), Clay Epstein of Film Mode Entertainment and Dan Rubin of Budding Equity are executive producing.
Siwa first rose to fame when she was just 9 years old on the reality show Dance Moms before moving into music and quickly amassing a gigantic global following via her YouTube channel (warning – those over 25 may feel older than ever after watching). While her style might famously be more KidzBop than killer, Siwa joins the worthy ranks of former Nickelodeon or Disney child stars who’ve made moves in horror – Keke Palmer, Jenna Ortega and Emma Roberts, to name but a few. Plus, All My Friends Are Dead is a more than fitting flick for the Boomerang singer’s first foray into horror, as the plot synopsis reveals:
The pic follows a group of close college friends who get a steal on a killer Airbnb for the biggest music festival of the year. A weekend of partying quickly takes a turn for the worst as members of the group are murdered one by one. They soon discover that each one of their deaths directly corresponds to one of the seven deadly sins.
Siwa expressed her excitement for branching out into a genre more grisly than glittery, saying;
โIโm so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the upcoming movie All My Friends Are Dead […] This is a project that is so different from anything Iโve done previously; however, I absolutely love horror movies and I canโt wait to start production! Iโm also excited to work with Jade again. We worked together when we were younger and canโt wait to create this movie together.โ
Distribution for All My Friends Are Dead is already well under way, with Deadline confirming that Film Mode has international rights and is shopping the film at EFM, and that deals have already been locked in Germany and Benelux (Splendid), the Middle East (Falcon), and Malaysia and Thailand (Film Frame).
All My Friends Are Dead is due to start filming in Canada this spring with Dunstan directing from a screenplay by writers Josh Sims and Jessica Sarah Flaum. Further casting is still ongoing, and release details are still yet to be announced, so keep checking for updates on the teenybopper terror.
