Not all that long ago, we learned that Deadpool 2 and Atomic Blonde director David Leitch would helm the next Jurassic World movie for Universal, who is apparently keen to reboot the franchise following the last three Jurassic films. Shortly thereafter, we learned that, no, actually, David Leitch would not be directing the next Jurassic World for Universal. As you can imagine, this created problems for Universal, a studio that very much needed someone to direct the next film in their multi-billion dollar dinosaur franchise.

Well, guess what? It didn’t take long! According to a new report at Deadline, Universal has hired Gareth Edwards to direct the next film in their Jurassic franchise (worth considering: will it still be called Jurassic World if we’re moving on from that trilogy? Like, they did three Jurassic Parks, three Jurassic Worlds, shouldn’t the next set of films have a new name? Discuss).

Y’know what? Great fucking choice. Gareth Edwards is one helluva filmmaker, and his exceptional ability for executing “scale” would serve any Jurassic movie well. Consider Monsters, or Godzilla, or Rogue One. This is the guy you want directing the next movie about gigantic lizards who cause headaches for human beings. This is a guy who can bring legitimate awe back to the franchise, and we’re delighted to hear he’s been hired.

As previously reported, the next Jurassic World (or whatever the hell they call it) has been written by the very talented David Koepp, and will involve an entirely new cast of characters. Beyond that, we know nothing about it, but do stay tuned for further updates on Gareth Edwards’ Jurassic (We Bet They Change This Part of The Title) as they roll in.
