It’s been a while since we heard anything about M3GAN 2.0, the much-anticipated sequel to Gerard Johnstone and Akela Cooper’s 2022 mega-hit M3GAN, but Deadline have confirmed today that Ivanna Sakhno (Star Wars‘ Ahsoka series) has joined the cast.
Sakhno will join returning stars Allison Williams (Get Out) and Violet McGraw (The Haunting of Hill House) in the tale of tiny tech terror. Also returning are Johnstone and Cooper as director and writer respectively, as well as James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse back as producers. Williams will also produce.
In case you were under a rock all of last year and missed M3GAN and her iconic viral dance, the film followed toy-company roboticist Gemma (Williams) who develops a life-like artificially intelligent doll (who also happens to be a FANGORIA cover girl…) to help her recently orphaned 8-year-old niece Cady (McGraw) manage her grief with a brand new friend. Obviously, everything isn’t as sweet as it seems.
While we won’t spoil the ending for anyone who’s yet to catch up with M3GAN, let’s just say there’s definitely plenty of potential for more murderous mischief from Miss M3GAN.
As for M3GAN 2.0, plot details are still tightly under wraps, although Deadline does let us know that Sakhno has landed a “major part”…
M3GAN was a box office hit, taking $181 million worldwide despite a dreaded January release date. A sequel was soon greenlit, and if M3GAN 2.0 does well, hopefully we can expect a lot more from everyone’s favorite mini maniac – and possibly a battle with another iconic killer doll on the horizon too…?
While M3GAN 2.0 had previously been marked with a release date of January 17, 2025, Blumhouse announced that the film would be pushed back to May 16, 2025, so sadly we still have a little over a year to wait for more M3GAN madness.
We’ll bring you more news on M3GAN 2.0 as soon as we get it – in the meantime, better brush up on your dance moves.
