So, here’s an interesting thing that just popped over at Bloody Disgusting: a brand-new teaser trailer for an upcoming NEON horror movie that doesn’t tell us which upcoming NEON horror movie is being promoted. Titled “That’s Not My Daughter,” the clip runs just over half a minute long, might give you goosebumps, and possibly contains a few clues.
Let’s take a look…
As pointed out by the good folks at BD, the clip above could be teasing one of several forthcoming NEON titles. There’s Tilman Singer’s Cuckoo, starring Dan Stevens and Jessica Henwick. Singer’s the director behind the utterly bizarre (and excellent!) Luz, and this footage is certainly strange enough that it could be advertising his next project. The next option would be the Sydney Sweeny-starring Immaculate, but that film takes place in an Italian convent, which makes this feel like the least-likely candidate.
So, what’s the most likely candidate? That’d be Oz Perkins’ Longlegs, starring Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage. That film will find Monroe’s FBI agent desperately hunting down Cage’s titular serial killer. Not only are we getting “serial killer” vibes from that teaser, but you’ll also note that one of the three primary shots contained therein features … a pair of long legs. It’s anyone’s guess as to what that code means at the end of the clip (someone smarter than us will need to decode it, and good luck to them), but we’re pretty sure we’re right on the title here.
Assuming we’re correct, when does Longlegs hit theaters? That, sadly, is currently unknown, but given the fact that an actual Longlegs teaser (filmed surreptitiously in a movie theater, so we won’t be linking to it) was recently making the rounds on social media, we’re guessing Perkins’ latest will be along sooner rather than later – and if so, that’d be great news, because Perkins makes damn good horror films.
Stay tuned for more on Longlegs, Cuckoo, and Immaculate as further updates become available. In the meantime, see what you can do about decoding that string of symbols at the end of the teaser above. We’re dying to know what it says!
