Tim Burton’s record-breaking Netflix hit Wednesday has secured a second season, Netflix confirmed earlier today with a nifty little video teaser.

Per Netflix, the show notched a massive 341.23 million hours viewed in its first month of release, with more than 50 million households watching it. With staggering figures like that was only a matter of time before the streamer commissioned a second series of the gothic teen mystery show.

In a statement, show runners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar commented that:

โ€œItโ€™s been incredible to create a show that has connected with people across the world […] Thrilled to continue Wednesdayโ€™s tortuous journey into season two. We canโ€™t wait to dive head first into another season and explore the kooky spooky world of Nevermore. Just need to make sure Wednesday hasnโ€™t emptied the pool first.โ€

Wednesday’s first season followed the titular teen, played by 2022’s favorite scream queen Jenna Ortega, as she navigated the mysteries of the Nevermore Academy and ‘navigating her new and very tangled relationships.’ In another interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gough teased the future of some of those relationships for season two – spoiler warning for the following!

We wanna sort of explore and sort of complicate all of those relationships going forward. The school was closed when they left, which gave us the most possibilities for season two, and I think thatโ€™s something that weโ€™re excited to explore. For us, the show also is really about this female friendship, with Wednesday and Enid really being at the center of that. The fact that they really connected with audiences, it has been really gratifying. So, weโ€™re excited to explore now that Wednesdayโ€™s dipped her toe into the friendship pool, whatโ€™s that gonna look like? Itโ€™s like, she hugged. That was her big arc for the season, right? So itโ€™s like now, we do that. Then, the other thing thatโ€™s really interesting is to continue to explore the Wednesday-Morticia mother-daughter relationship as well, which now that Morticia knows about the power, it has given her sort of an idea of how thatโ€™s going to go. How is their relationship going to evolve?

In the video announcement seen below, Wednesday acknowledges her status as a viral hit, referencing the now infamous dance scene which became a TikTok sensation.
