2023 was another banner year for horror, and we've been quite spoiled in the last several years with this bountiful feast. 2024 is already off to a strong start with Blumhouse's Night Swim dominating the box office right out of the gate. If you're looking for new horror movies, we've got you covered with a list of the new horror movies we are most looking forward to in the coming weeks. Some of these will be in theaters, some will have limited theatrical release, and a few of these titles will be exclusively streaming, so you can watch right from home.
The list runs the gamut from big studio horrors like Night Swim and True Detective: Night Country to original independent titles like Shudder's Destroy All Neighbors. We have a rich year of new horror ahead of us, we'll update and add more here as they come in, but for now, happy viewing!
And as always, get noisy about the titles you like! Word of mouth is still the best marketing tool that exists, and these smaller titles definitely deserve to be loved on.

Night Swim
The first major horror movie release of 2024 hails from Blumhouse. Our very own Scott Wampler sums it up rather nicely, "from the looks of things, this creepy aquatic tale may very well do for swimming pools what Steven Spielberg's Jaws once did for the ocean." Based on the acclaimed 2014 short film by Rod Blackhurst and Bryce McGuire, the film stars Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as Ray Waller, a former major league baseball player forced into early retirement by a degenerative illness, who moves into a new home with his concerned wife Eve (Oscarย nominee Kerry Condon,ย The Banshees of Inisherin), teenage daughter Izzy (Amรฉlie Hoeferle, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) and young son Elliot (Gavin Warren,ย Fear the Walking Dead).ย
Secretly hoping, against the odds, to return to pro ball, Ray persuades Eve that the new homeโs shimmering backyard swimming pool will be fun for the kids and provide physical therapy for him. But a dark secret in the homeโs past will unleash a malevolent force that will drag the family under, into the depths of inescapable terror.ย
Night Swim is currently playing in theaters.
Destroy All Neighbors โ January 12
Friend of Fango Jonah Ray Rodrigues stars as William Brown, a neurotic, self-absorbed musician determined to finish his prog-rock magnum opus, as he faces a creative roadblock in the form of a noisy and grotesque neighbor named Vlad (Alex Winter). Finally working up the nerve to demand that Vlad keep it down, William inadvertently decapitates him. But, while attempting to cover up one murder, Williamโs accidental reign of terror causes victims to pile up and become undead corpses who torment and create more bloody detours on his road to prog-rock Valhalla. Destroy All Neighbors is prog-rock-infused, splatter-filled dark comedy exploring William's deranged journey of self-discovery. Come for Rodrigues and Winter, stay for the abundance of goopy practical FX.
Stream Destroy All Neighbors exclusively on Shudder.
True Detective: Night Country โ January 14
Ok, this one isn't a movie, but it absolutely needs to be on your radar. There's a reason folks are already raving about the fourth season of True Detective and widely calling it the best season since the first. Issa Lรณpez takes the healm as writer and director and steers us into the arctic for a horror story that masterfully fits into the world of True Detective, while also making it wholly her own. Jodie Foster and Kali Reis star as local law enforcement officials at odds with one another, and pretty much everything and everyone around them. With nods to snowy classics like The Thing, Lรณpez crafts a mystery in the dark, and trust me when I say this season is an absolute feast for horror fans.
True Detective: Night Country premieres on HBO Max and is streaming on Max Sunday, January 14 at 9 p.m. ET and PT. Stay tuned for our cast interviews from the True Detective red carpet premiere.
Founders Day - January 19
Erik Bloomquist's Founders Day is one of the horror films we're most looking forward to in 2024, a satirical, political slasher about a series of sinister killings striking a small town on the eve of its tricentennial celebration/impending mayoral election. Who's the masked slasher responsible for these murders, and who will survive long enough to cast their vote? We can't wait to find out!
Founders Day hits theaters January 19th. You can read more about Bloomquist's film in the latest issue of FANGORIA, which can be ordered in our shop.!
The Woman In The Wall - January 19
This six-episode thriller is described as a darly comedic thriller with elements of gothic horror that centers on a woman (Ruth Wilson) from a small, fictional Irish town who wakes one morning to find a corpse in her house. Lorna has no idea who the woman is, or if she's potentially involved in the mystery woman's demise. Suffering from extreme bouts of sleepwalking "ever since she was ripped from her life at the age of 15 and incarcerated in The Kilkinure Convent, a (fictional) home to one of Irelandโs infamous Magdalene Laundries for women. There, Lorna gave birth to her daughter Agnes, who cruelly was taken from her and whose fate Lorna never has known."
The Woman In The Wall makes its streaming debut on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday, January 19, and premieres on air Sunday, January 21, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.
The Seeding - January 26
Directed by Barnaby Clay, a man finds himself trapped in a desert canyon with a woman living off-grid who is captive to a pack of sadistic boys.
Clay describes The Seeding as a story that "deals with big themes, but in a small, contained way, almost like a brutal adult version of a children's story or fable - something to bore under your skin and stick around for a while. I hope, like all great horror, it speaks some truth about human nature, even if it's a side weโd rather not see." Clay has a background as a music video director, working with bands like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Depeche Modeโs Dave Gahan, and TV On The Radio. He's also directed short films, including Carousel, starring Chloe Sevigny, and Sickdog, starring Tunde Adebimpe and Natasha Lyonne.
We're excited to see what he does in a feature-length format with The Seeding. The film stars Scott Haze (Venom, Jurassic World Dominion) and Kate Lyn Sheil (You're Next, V/H/S).
Baghead โ January 26 (UK Release Date)
We don't know a ton about this just yet, but Night Swim director Bryce McGuire is one of the writers on this one, which follows a young woman who inherits a run-down pub and discovers a dark secret within its basement. Enter Baghead - a shape-shifting creature that will let you speak to lost loved ones, but not without consequence. You know, just once we'd love to commune with the dead without dealing with consequences! We'll keep you posted as we unravel Baghead's secrets.
Dario Argento Panico - February 2
Directed by Simone Scafidi, this documentary takes an in-depth look at one of horrorโs most celebrated figures. The man behind classics such as Suspiria and Deep Red is celebrated by fellow directors, with plenty of behind-the-scenes footage showcasing the man at work. Not only is Argento himself taking part in the film, but an impressive list of interviewees includes Asia Argento, Fiore Argento, Nicolas Winding Refn, Gaspar Noรจ, Guillermo Del Toro, Michel Savia and Lamberto Bava.
Dario Argento Panico is streaming on Shudder February 2.
Skeletons In The Closet - February 9
Skeletons In The Closet is streaming on Shudder February 9.
Lisa Frankenstein โ February 9
Diablo Cody penned this goth teen dream neon horror-comedy set in the '80s, starring Freaky's Kathryn Newton and Riverdale's Cole Sprouse, and we are pretty fuckin excited about it. Nothing says Valentine's Day plans like a little teenage necromancy. Liza Soberano, Henry Eikenberry, Joe Chrest and Carla Gugino round out this stellar coming of RAGE love story about a misunderstood teenager and her high school crush, who happens to be a handsome corpse (of corpse!). After a set of darkly comedic and horrific circumstances bring him back to life, the two embark on a murderous journey to find love, happinessโฆ and a few missing body parts along the way. Read all about it in FANGORIA #22.
Lisa Frankenstein is in theaters February 9.
Out Of Darkness - February 9

First they must find shelter, and they strike out across the tundra wastes towards the distant mountains that promise the abundant caves they need to survive. Stopmotion - February 23
Directed by Robert Morgan (who co-wrote the screenplay with Robin King), Stopmotion revolves around a stop-motion animator by the name of Ella whose latest project might just be driving her to the brink of madness. We caught this one at Fantastic Fest and it is gorgeous and grotesque, and we can't wait for you all to see it!
Stopmotion is in theaters February 23 and VOD March 15..
