2023 was an incredible year for horror games. From edge-of-your-seat fright fests like the phenomenal Alan Wake 2 to the claustrophobic intensity of Amnesia: The Bunker, it was a year filled with unforgettable titles from both the indie and AAA space. Thankfully, the frights have continued into 2024, and we have already had some memorable releases – like The Outlast Trials and Hellblade 2 – but there’s still plenty more to come for horror fans.
The recent Summer Game Fest event and subsequent showcases kicked off the Summer season and gave us an excellent look at some new horror video games coming out this year. Alongside those announcements, we’ve also gathered up a few more games we can’t wait to play throughout the rest of this year. These titles offer a wide range of experiences as well, so whether you’re looking for pure survival horror or spooky puzzle-y platformers, there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy.

Blumhouse Games Debut Slate - 2024 and Beyond
One of the biggest reveals during Summer Game Fest was Blumhouse Games' slate of games, of which there are six to look forward to: Fear the Spotlight from developer Cozy Game Pals, SLEEP AWAKE from EYES OUT, Crisol: Theater of Idols from Vermila Studios, The Simulation from Playmestudio, Grave Seasons from Perfect Garbage, and Project C from Half Mermaid Productions.
Each project has its own distinct style, from contemporary AAA takes to retro aesthetics, and even feature some notable creators and developers behind them. In particular, we've locked our eyes on Project C, which is being crafted by Immortality developer Sam Barlow and Infinity Pool director Brandon Cronenberg. All of these games are worthy of our anticipation in this list, though, and if you want to see more details about each of them, check out our breakdown of the Blumhouse Games debut lineup here.
Dredge: The Iron Rig DLC - August 15th, 2024
Announced at the Future Games Show, Dredge is getting another DLC that we truly can't wait to play the second it's available. The Iron Rig is the second expansion from Black Salt Games following The Pale Reach. Alongside reeling in some spooky sea creatures from the depths below, you'll also investigate the Ironhaven Corporation. The game's Steam page states that the expansion adds "a new constructable destination with its own story, items and adversities that can be experienced at any stage in your playthrough."
If you're excited to jump back into Dredge's Lovecraftian currents for a new adventure, you won't have to wait too long as it's set to come out on August 15th this year.
Pneumata - Summer, 2024
This was another horror game that caught our attention during the Future Games Show. Pneumata is a survival horror that's ready to crawl under your skin. Its Steam page reads, "The tenants are going missing, screams echo and blood seeps through the walls of Clover Hill." You play as a detective whose goal is to "unravel the truth that lays within and recover your fragmented memories, or succumb to the horrors that lurk in the shadows," which has us sold. It's set to release sometime this Summer, so make sure to keep it on your radar.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart Of Chornobyl - September 5, 2024
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl has quite the development history, but it's finally set to release on both PC and Xbox Series X|S on September 5th, 2024. This game is the fourth in the series and follows up on the events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, which was released back in 2010. It's one that many are eager to finally get their hands on, and it seems like it'll have plenty of exciting features for players to enjoy.
Built in Unreal Engine 5, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 offers a tense, terrifying atmosphere for players to drop into and immersive elements that make survival of the utmost importance. Each choice will impact how the game unfolds for you, so you'll have to tread lightly and be mindful of your surroundings and allies. It's also set to release day one on Game Pass, so if you're a member, you can immediately jump into it.
Silent Hill 2 Remake - October 8th, 2024
It's official, the Silent Hill 2 Remake is coming out this year on October 8th. After a thrilling reveal in October 2022, fans have eagerly awaited more information on the game, and thanks to a recent Silent Hill Transmission following PlayStation's State of Play in May, they got that and more.
Not only did the Silent Hill Transmission finally reveal the game's release date, but it also offered a very nice 13-minute-long look at the gameplay. This gave fans a deeper look at what to expect from the upcoming remake, and it seems like the Bloober Team has done quite a bit to make it approachable for both newcomers and longtime fans. A Dev Diary from Bloober Team further explores the development behind the highly-anticipated upcoming game. It's a title we're so excited to play, and if you want a full breakdown of what to expect, check out our rundown of the Silent Hill 2 remake.
No More Room In Hell 2 - Early Access Begins Halloween, 2024
Announced this year as part of Summer Game Fest in June, No More Room in Hell 2 promises plenty of gory zombie action for players to dig into. Play with up to 8 other people in permadeath co-op as you work together to scrounge for supplies, complete missions, and - most importantly - survive.
The game's early access release date couldn't be more perfect, either. You'll be able to go on a zombie-killing spree in No More Room in Hell 2 this Halloween!
Diablo IV: Vessel Of Hatred Expansion October 8th, 2024
Diablo IV's first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, is officially coming out on October 8th. If you enjoyed the main game's cinematic story and the epic fight against Lilith, it looks like this expansion will continue that, following Neyrelle on a dark, twisted journey. The trailer shown off during the Xbox Games Showcase certainly solidified that, as it showed Neyrelle enduring some seriously wicked torture as the dark god Mephisto plays with her mind. It's one we're very excited to get our hands on this October.

Slitterhead - November 8, 2024
From the creator of Silent Hill, Keiichiro Toyama, Slitterhead was initially revealed at The Game Awards back in 2021 but got a nice little gameplay trailer during Summer Game Fest this year. Not only did this trailer show off some of the game's systems, which use strange and unearthly techniques to help track down the monstrous Slitterheads who have disguised themselves as humans, but it also showed off the gnarly creatures players will get to come face-to-face with. It's sure to be a thrill to jump into, and is set to release on November 8th this year.
Zoochosis - TBD, 2024
Day of the Devs is an excellent Summer showcase that shows off what's going on in the wonderful world of indie development right now, and there was plenty for horror fans to enjoy this year. First up that caught our attention was Zoochosis. Much like its title suggests, Zoochosis centers on a zoo, but something's gone very, very wrong with the animals. According to its Steam page, "This is your first night shift as a zookeeper. You find out that some animals are infected and turning into mutants. Save them and save yourself." A release date is yet to be announced for it, but in the meantime, it's worth rewatching its trailer to see those creepy mutated creatures in action.
The Thing: Remastered - TBD, 2024
From Nightdive Studios, the developers who brought us the excellent System Shock remake last year, comes a shiny new remaster of the third-person survival horror game The Thing. Originally released back in 2002 for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 and based on John Carpenter's iconic movie, this remaster will provide the game with "Antialiasing, Per Pixel Lighting, 4K Resolution and up to 144 FPS," per the game's Steam page. The reveal trailer showed off just enough to get us incredibly excited, and with Nightdive Studios leading the charge, it's sure to be in great hands.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 - Fall, 2024
The Chinese Room is keeping busy with horror titles, as they're also developing the long-awaited sequel Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2. Set in Seattle, players will take on the role of an elder vampire who must form alliances and survive while sticking to the shadows to avoid their vampiric secrets coming to light. It's a spooky action RPG that's sure to quench the thirst of those with a love for vampire stories.
According to publisher Paradox Interactive, the game is gearing up for a Fall release this year, making it a perfect game to keep in mind for Halloween.
Bye Sweet Carole - TBD, 2024
Bye Sweet Carole is a horror platformer with an astonishing art style that evokes Disney's classic 2D animation. Don't let that fool you, though, as there's far more to it than meets the eye. Its style is almost as if Alice fell into an even more twisted and spookier version of Wonderland. This one is well worth keeping on your radar for the art alone, but given the gameplay trailer shown off at Gamescom 2023, it looks like the scary story will be just as interesting to unravel.
Unfortunately, there's no set release date for it yet. However, publisher Just for Games has a big '2024' listed at the bottom of Bye Sweet Carole's page, so we can keep our fingers crossed that the wait won't be too long.
Dark Fracture - TBD, 2024
Psychological horror games are always an excellent addition to your library, and Dark Fracture looks well worth the download. This first-person horror game brings some truly terrifying nightmares to life. In it, you'll play as Edward, a man "tormented by a tragic past, whose only solace is in the medicine that helps him to get through the day," per the game's Steam page.
While working the night shift, Edward experiences "a chain of disturbing events" that pull him "ever closer to losing his sanity," as the game walks a fragile line between reality and the horrors of a world beyond our own. It seems like it could possibly draw a bit from the likes of Amnesia, given the sanity factor, but regardless it'll be exciting to see what developers Twisted II Studio have in store. While no release date has been set explicitly for it, it's still listed as a 2024 release, so keep an eye out for it. But if you simply can't wait to get a taste, you can play a demo of Dark Fracture and the Dark Fracture Prologue on Steam right now!
Post Trauma - Fall, 2024
Alone and trapped in a nightmarish world full of terrifying monsters, Post Trauma has you play as Roman, a train conductor trying to find his way back to reality. From its Gamescom 2023 trailer, Post Trauma seems like a game that draws inspiration from several different horror classics, with Resident Evil and Silent Hill springing to mind. It occasionally utilizes fixed camera angles, has a couple of puzzles to solve to gain weapons, and an atmosphere that's sure to make your skin crawl as you look to see what's hiding in the dark.
Per a tweet from the developers, Post Trauma is set to release sometime this Fall. You can also check out the brand-new trailer for the game in that tweet alongside the release date announcement!
The Casting of Frank Stone - TBD, 2024
The Dead by Daylight universe collides with the storytelling of Supermassive Games (the minds behind Until Dawn, The Dark Pictures Anthology, and The Quarry) with The Casting of Frank Stone. This game was only just revealed at this year's Game Awards via a spooky trailer that briefly showed off its world, protagonists, and killer.
It doesn't have a set release date, but the final screen of the trailer said 'Coming 2024', so fingers crossed that it gets a nice little Halloween slot. While we don't know much about it, we can gauge from what we know of Supermassive's style already that it'll likely be an intense interactive story with choices that may impact those four characters introduced in the trailer. During an interview with IGN, Supermassive's studio director, Steve Goss stated, "The story hinges and pivots on Frank. Frank is the center of everything that the story will deal with... It is the story of Frank Stone and the lives and the town that his crime touches." It seems like a story that'll be fun for Dead by Daylight fans to pick apart and easy for newcomers to jump into for some scares.
John Carpenter's Toxic Commando - TBD, 2024
From one of the masters of horror who just wants "to play video games" (totally understandable, king), John Carpenter's Toxic Commando is a co-op FPS where you can team up with up to four people to shoot down mutated zombies. Per publisher Focus Entertainment's website, it's a must-play for those who love "Buddy-movie vibes and the over-the-top humor, action, and horror of classic '80s cinema, inspired by the legendary John Carpenter."
The man himself is excited to be teaming up with Focus and developer Saber Interactive, adding to his excitement in a statement from Focus saying, "Look, I really like shooting zombies. They keep telling me that they're called' the infected.' Please. They're ghouls, dude. They blow up real good and there are a ton of them. People are going to love this game." And with that, we're sold. It's set to release sometime next year, so keep it on your radar.
Little Nightmares III - TBDUpdate: Little Nightmares III was recently delayed to 2025. In the meantime, read our full rundown on what to expect.
Little Nightmares III, announced during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live 2023, turns this tiny but mighty series of games into a trilogy. The brief trailer features two brand-new characters, named Low and Alone, as they make their way through the terrifying, sprawling world of The Nowhere. Each has their own weapons: Low uses a bow and arrow, while Alone has a trusty wrench.
The most exciting part of this reveal is that you can play Little Nightmares III in online co-op. This is a first for the franchise and will be fun to take advantage of with another person. However, if you want to embark on this spooky journey solo, the role of Player 2 will be filled by an AI, so you can still get the extra assistance with all of its platforming and puzzles. No release date is officially set yet.
Horror Games We Can Already Play in 2024
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden - February 13, 2024
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is akin to The Witcher with a ghostly angle. It centers on a couple, Antea Duarte and Red mac Raith, who are Banishers - individuals tasked with hunting down and exorcizing the supernatural. However, things take a turn for the worse when Antea meets an untimely end. This turn of events sends Red down a path in hopes of bringing her back to life.
Throughout this journey, you'll be able to take on the roles of both of these characters and utilize their different abilities to perform your duties as Banishers. This game is a choice-driven RPG, so your decisions will have heavy consequences as the story progresses. And considering its developed by Don't Nod, the folks behind Life is Strange, it's sure to be a story as devastating as it is spooky.
The Outlast Trials - Console release March 5, 2024
Outlast has taken a turn into multiplayer territory with The Outlast Trials. While this game was already making the rounds on PC in early access, its official release on consoles (Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5) was March 5th, 2024, and boy, have players been in for a terrifying treat.
Set before the first two games, The Outlast Trials features challenges courtesy of the Murkoff Corporation that you can complete solo or in a team of up to four in order to escape a prison-like facility. Like the previous two games, you'll be tasked with hiding from and avoiding enemies as they patrol the facility while finding your way out. However, you can find items to give you an advantage against enemies, whether that be a way to stun or blind them, or items to improve your health and stamina. What better way to be scared than with friends?
Alone In The Dark - Released March 20th, 2024
Alone in the Dark is a reimagined version of the 1992 game of the same name. Much like Resident Evil has done with remakes of its earlier games, Alone in the Dark is opting for an over-the-shoulder third-person perspective rather than the original’s now-retro fixed camera angles. From this new perspective, we’ll have a better view of the stellar cast that will guide us through this terrifying tale. Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer and Stranger Things’ David Harbour lead as Emily Hartwood and Edward Carnby, respectively. Carnby is a private investigator hired by Emily to track down her missing uncle within the haunting halls of Derceto Manor. Both are playable as you progress through the manor’s creepy corridors.
If you need any more convincing, the writer behind this game is Mikael Hedberg, the astonishing mind behind Soma and a couple of the Amnesia games. Not only that, but the developer, Pieces Interactive, “is supported by monster designer and legendary Guillermo del Toro collaborator, Guy Davis, as well as Doom Jazz legend Jason Köhnen, who provides his eerie and haunting melodies for the right atmosphere,” per THQ Nordic. It’s set to release on March 20, 2024, so make sure to mark your calendar. Check out our in-depth preview of the survival horror adventure.
Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 - May 21, 2024
Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 was initially revealed back in 2019 at The Game Awards and it officially released this year on May 21st, 2024.
Hellblade 2 puts players back in Senua's shoes as she takes on even greater demons, both internally and externally. And once again, the graphics are simply astonishing. In a Development Diary from Ninja Theory, the team showcased how they've been "capturing the likeness of real actors" and "handcrafting costumes using traditional techniques," in order to make these characters look as real as possible when scanned in. It's a level of detail that's a feast for the eyes, and the same attention to detail has been applied to 3D audio effects, too, so Hellblade 2 is a treat for the ears as well. This game is available on Xbox Game Pass for members, as is the first game, so you can play through it before the sequel if this is your first encounter with the series.
Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game - June 4th, 2024
Another game for those looking for a multiplayer fright fest, and from the creators of Friday the 13th: The Game, Killer Klowns From Outer Space: The Game is here to let players go craazzy as either the titular Klowns or the citizens of Crescent Cove trying to protect their town. You can play in groups of three as the Klowns or in groups of seven as the humans, each with unique abilities and skill sets.
According to Killer Klowns's Steam page, it also features a "unique approach to hide-and-seek gameplay, PvPvE, dynamic objectives leading to multiple match results" and the game "evolves the online horror formula in new ways." Prepare to battle the Klowns (or harvest the humans, your choice) right now, as the game released on June 4th.
Still Wakes The Deep - June 18th, 2024
There’s nothing more frightening than the thought of being stranded out in the middle of the ocean. Add to that being stuck on a gigantic oil rig in the middle of a storm, losing all communication, with something horrific hunting down you and your crew, and you’re in for a terrifying tale. That’s what Still Wakes the Deep has in store for those brave enough to step foot on the Beira D oil rig.
Still Wakes the Deep is developed by The Chinese Room, the team behind Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. Its short teaser trailer, revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase gave us a little taste of what to expect from its creepy atmosphere (with a short clip of the creature’s creepy screech at the end). You can now set sail to this isolated oil rig.
