It’s been a while since we heard a peep about Konami and Bloober Team’s much-anticipated Silent Hill 2 remake, but last night’s Sony PlayStation State of Play showcase saw a brand new trailer debuted, one that showcases the game’s “improved and modernized” combat.
Back in 2022, Bloober Team, the Polish studio behind Layers of Fear, The Medium and the Nintendo Switch’s Blair Witch, were revealed to be handling the long-rumoured remake of the 2001 survival horror classic, which follows a man named James Sunderland who is called back to the foggy and mysterious town of Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his long-dead wife.
While fans of the original Silent Hill 2 have been wary about changes made to the iconic psychological horror game, the clunky, awkward combat was something many were keen to see updated with modern technology. Back in 2023, Bloober Team Chief Marketing Officer Anna Jasiลska reassured fans that the team “[…] are focusing on bringing the distinct, visceral atmosphere back in the modernized Silent Hill 2.“
The new trailer certainly hints towards a more action-focused combat style with melee prompts, similar to the hugely successful Resident Evil remakes. It also gives us a closer look at some of the game’s creepiest monsters, including the Lying Figure, Mannequin and iconic Bubble Head Nurses.
While the Silent Hill 2 remake does not yet have a set release date, a PlayStation 5 reel released at the start of this year seemed to confirm it as a 2024 release date. Here’s that trailer to get you in the mood – we’ll have more Silent Hill news for you soon, we’re sure…
