Somewhat understandably, the internet lost its goddamn mind a few months ago upon learning about an upcoming film titled Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey. In a clear-cut case of “Does right what it says on the tin,” Blood and Honey was precisely the film one imagined upon hearing that title: a slasher movie wherein the villains were various characters from Winnie the Pooh.

Despite the fact that horror fans are long since used to the genre taking gigantic, sometimes goofy swings, we all had a good chuckle over something like this existing (Thanks, public domain laws!), went about our business, and awaited the film’s first trailer. Well, it’s here now, and I’m not entirely sure that we were prepared for exactly what this one would look like in action.

Behold:

Directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield (and apparently shot within 10 days), Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey looks primed to be one of 2022’s more memorable horror films. Whether it’s one of the year’s best horror films remains to be seen, of course, but I think they’ve definitely got the “memorable” part nailed: here we have a now-grown Christopher Robin (Nikolai Leon) returns to the 100 Acre Wood to discover that the furry friends he left behind are, uh … well, they don’t look very friendly anymore, do they? Eyeore’s dead and buried, Pooh looks like a melting Homer Simpson, and Piglet is out here sledgehammering people in the face. In a pool.

Listen, I’m going to watch this movie. You are probably going to watch this movie. Let’s all agree not to lie to ourselves about that. The concept here is inarguably ridiculous (and, let’s face it, more than a little gimmicky), but you gotta respect the gumption involved in committing to this particular bit, especially on what was obviously a very limited budget. Bring on the lunacy, I say!

As of this writing, Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey does not have a release date, but you can bet your sweet ass that I’ll be monitoring the situation carefully, and will relay further updates to you the moment they pop up on my radar. Stay tuned.
