Yesterday, the news broke that Rhys Frake-Waterfield, director of the forthcoming Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, was bringing that film to theaters (via Fathom Events) for a one-night only screening. And y’know what? Given the recent, runaway success of Terrifier 2, well, we can’t blame ’em: if there were ever a time to be dropping your ultra low-budget horror film in theaters in the hopes of scoring an organic, word-of-mouth hit, it’s now!
But buried at the very end of The Hollywood Reporter’s, uh, report on the matter is another interesting little tidbit of information: according to them, Frake-Waterfield has already determined and begun prepping his next project, a horror film by the name of Peter Pan: Neverland Nightmares.
Not much is known about this one beyond the title, but given that title … I think we can arrive at some safe assumptions. It’s apparently a Peter Pan movie, so it’ll be trafficking in the same Public Domain territory Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey will be trafficking in (which is to say, “repurposing iconic childhood characters for the horror genre”). We can probably also infer that the film will be taking place in Neverland, and that whatever’s going on there is more nefarious than ever. Maybe even bloody!
Beyond that? Nothing further to go on! One suspects that this one will be along sooner rather than later should Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey prove to be a hit, but we’ll have to see how that one fares when it hits theaters (again, for one night only) on February 15th. Stay tuned for further updates on Rhys Frake-Waterfield’s various projects as they become available, and do stay safe out there. These formerly cuddly characters really seem to have it out for humanity.
