Production on the fifth and final season of Netflix’s sci-fi smash hit Stranger Things has officially begun, with the streaming giant today sharing a behind the scenes pic of (almost) the entire cast, scripts in hand and ready to rock (check that out down below.) Late last year, we heard that the Duffer Brothers and co. were looking to get production underway sometime between January 5 and 8 of this year – and they’ve just made the target.

Stranger Things, which follows the sinister and extra-dimensional goings-on in the fictional town of Hawkins, has launched the careers of a number of stars, including Millie Bobby Brown, Joe Keery, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Sadie Sink, Charlie Heaton, Noah Schnapp and Maya Hawke. The show also blessed us with a return of seasoned actors such as Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Matthew Modine and Cara Buono.

Given that the fourth series of the show broke a whole bunch of streaming records, Netflix will surely be sad to say goodbye, but seeing as the show has been around since 2016 (and we’ve watched many of the cast go from kids to late teens in seemingly the blink of an eye), it’s as good a time as any to let the series pass into the Upside Down.

Not to worry though, as it seems Season 5 is going out with a bang – Terminator legend Linda Hamilton is set to star, and Prey director Dan Trachtenbergย is even on board to direct an episode. Plus, there’s the assurance from producer Shawn Levy that the final season is “as big as the biggest movies that we see.” Sounds very promising!

Of course, as with any hit show, Season 5 won’t be the end of the Stranger Things universe – there’s the stage play plus upcoming animated series to look forward to.

No word yet on a release date for the final season, but it’ll more than likely be sometime in 2025. We’ll bring you all the updates as and when we get them!
