In the wake of Scream VI‘s success at the box office, the filmmakers known as Radio Silence were announced as working on an “untitled monster movie” for Universal, an intriguing bit of news that was quickly followed up with the announcement that Melissa Barrera had joined the cast. All of this sounded great to Team Fango (any Radio Silence project sounds great to us at Team Fango), but details regarding the film’s plot were very hard to come by.
Today, we’ve got two new updates on Radio Silence’s next, and one of them may tip the hand as to what this movie’s about. For starters, Matilda star Alisha Weird has joined the project in what sounds like a pivotal role. While we have yet to see Matilda (sorry, we’re a horror website), we understand that Weir more or less walks away with the movie. Good get, Radio Silence.
Which brings us to the following:
“Plot details are being kept in the trunk of a car, but the project was at one point titledย Draculaโs Daughter. That project centered on a group of kidnappers who abduct a band of young people, one of whom ends up being the titular character. Woe then betides the kidnappers.
Weir is playing the kidnappee who proves to be more than she appears, with Barrera playing one of the kidnappers.”
A-ha! That’s The Hollywood Reporter describing Radio Silence’s “untitled monster movie,” and it’s certainly more information than we’ve had up to this point. THR goes on to say that Universal has yet to confirm the details above, but that “the studio is noting that the untitled horror feature is in the vein of recent Universal films such as Leigh Whannellโs The Invisible Man and the Nicolas Cage starrer Renfield in that it will be ‘a unique take on legendary monster lore and will represent a fresh, new direction for how to celebrate these classic characters.'”
We’re very excited to find out where Radio Silence are going with all this, and will keep you up to date as further announcements roll in. Stay tuned for those; we imagine there’ll be plenty more to come in the weeks ahead.
