Sam Raimi, the director of The Evil Dead, is stepping back into the horror arena once more for a brand new thriller. While Raimi won’t be directing, he is producing the film, and he’s teaming up with one of the people responsible for one of this year’s best horror movies, Barbarian. As reported by Deadline, Raimi is partnering with Alex Lebovici and Hammerstone Studios, as well as Christian Mercuri and Capstone Studios for Don’t Move. And it sounds like this one has a pretty intriguing premise.
Per the report, “Don’t Move watches as a seasoned killer injects a grieving woman with a paralytic agent. She must then run, fight and hide before her body completely shuts down.” Casting is currently underway, with Adam Schindler and Brian Netto set to direct. The duo previously worked with Raimi on his short-form TV show, 50 States of Fright, which was produced for the now-defunct streaming service Quibi. T.J. Cimfel and David White (V/H/S Viral) penned the screenplay. Raimi had this to say about it:
“Alex and the team at Hammerstone as well as our friends at Capstone are the ideal production partners as we bring this compelling and twisted tale to light. I am delighted to collaborate again with our co-directors Adam and Brian on this incredibly frightening and tense story full of so many twists and turns – it will deliver a fantastic horror punch to the audience!”
Lebovici, Raimi, and Zainab Azizi are producing the film, with Mercuri, David Haring, Marc Manus, Schindler, Netto, Petr Jákl and Ara Keshishian on board as executive producers. Raimi, meanwhile, is coming off of a massive hit in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As a producer, though, he’s got quite the track record in horror, having produced hits like Don’t Breathe, Crawl, and The Grudge, among others. He’s also, rather crucially, producing next year’s Evil Dead Rise, the first film in the franchise in a full decade. Lebovici had this to add:
“It’s amazingly exciting for us to reunite with the genre master Sam Raimi, and Zainab Azizi, who yet again have found two extremely talented young filmmakers in Adam and Brian to bring Don’t Move to life. We are honored to be part of such a fantastic project.”
No word yet on a distribution plan for this one, but Capstone will be handling the rights. So, at this stage, it’s unclear if this will get sold to a streaming service or if it will end up getting a theatrical rollout through a studio. With Raimi on board, a theatrical release would not be remotely surprising.
Don’t Move does not yet have a release date set.
