This year’s Midsummer Scream unfolded in Long Beach, CA over the weekend, and those in attendance were given the very first look at Kevin Gruetert’s Saw X, the (you guessed it) tenth film in Lionsgate’s long-running franchise. The trailer shown to attendees showed up online shortly thereafter, but perhaps you didn’t catch it when it dropped. Not to worry; we’ve got you covered.
Let’s take a look…
Well, what can we say? That definitely looks like another classic installment in the Saw franchise. Everything’s in its right place! Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) and Amanda (Shawnee Smith, wearing that pig mask) are back, the victims are nestled snugly in their restraints, and that dang bowtie-wearing puppet is riding his tricycle around again. Saw X may be a prequel, but it certainly looks of a piece with the rest of the series.
Here’s an official plot synopsis:
โSet between the events ofย Saw and Sawย II, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer โ only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable. The infamous killer returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through devious, deranged, and ingenious traps.โ
In addition to Bell and Smith, Saw X will also starย Renata Vacaย (Midnight Family),ย Paulette Hernandezย (Crown of Tears),ย Joshua Okamotoย (Control-Z),ย Octavio Hinojosaย (Come Play With Me),ย Synnรธve Macody Lundย (Ragnarok),ย Steven Brandย (The Sandman) andย Michael Beachย (Dahmer). They’re all working from a screenplay by Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg, with the aforementioned Kevin Gruetert (Saw V, Saw 3D) in the director’s chair.
So, when do we get to see it! Not too much longer: Lionsgate will drop Saw X into theaters on September 29th, just in time for Spooky Season! There’s nothing further to report on Saw X at this time, but rest assured that we’ll be keeping you informed with any further updates between now and the film’s arrival in theaters. Stay tuned for those, folks, and stay safe out there – you never know where Jigsaw’s gonna pop up next!
