Spiral director Kurtis David Harder has once again teamed up with Shudder for his new horror-thriller Influencer, with Deadline revealing that the streaming giant has picked up the film for multiple territories.
Influencer, which has been an award-winning hit on the festival scene after premiering at last year’s Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, will hit Shudder in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, Spain, Portugal and Latin America later this spring.
Emily Tennant (Way of the Wicked), Cassandra Naud (Snowpiercer), Sarah Canning (The Vampire Diaries) and Rory J. Saper (The Legend of Tarzan) star in the pic, which follows:
…Madison (Tennant), a popular social media influencer who is having a lonely and uneventful trip in Thailand despite what she tells her followers on Instagram. While reflecting on her boyfriend canceling the trip, she meets CW (Naud), a fearless and enigmatic traveler who offers to take her to some of the most Instagram-worthy locations. Together they share authentic meals and drinks with locals, discussing the differences between Madisonโs online presence and CWโs lack of one. After showing Madison all of the amazing sights, things take a different turn when CW brings her to a surprise location โ a deserted island that is completely off the grid.
Harder also co-wrote the script alongside Tesh Guttikonda (Mom Vs. Machine), and both produced alongside Brandon Christensen, Jack Campbell and Micah Henry.
Emily Gotto, Shudderโs VP of Global Acquisitions & Co-Productions said of the upcoming horror: โInfluencer is a thought-provoking and suspenseful exploration of the world of social media, and we are thrilled to share it with Shudder members this spring as part of an already exciting lineup of some of the best in horror filmmaking.โ
It’s been a solid few years for influencer horror, with Eugene Kotlyarenko’s Spree, Hannah Barlow and Kane Senes’s Sissy and Rob Savage’s Dashcam also exploring the darker sides of social media and just how far some people will go to snatch up those likes. We’ll be #blessed to add Influencer to that catalogue this spring.
