A new Robert Eggers film is always something worth celebrating, and the filmmaker’s next effort – a remake of F.W. Murnau’s vampire classic, Nosferatu – is certainly no exception. Starring Willem Dafoe, Bill Skarsgård (as the titular bloodsucker), Nicholas Hoult, Emma Corrin, Ralph Ineson, Lily-Rose Depp and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, we expect Eggers’ Nosferatu to be a full-on barnburner of a horror film, and today brings exciting news about where the production stands.
According to a new report over at Bloody Disgusting, Nosferatu has wrapped production in Prague. Did so roughly halfway through May, in fact, if the Prague Reporter is anything to go by.
Says BD:
“According to the site, Nosferatu ‘quietly wrapped filming in Prague on May 19 after a three month shoot.’ Prague Reporter also notes, ‘Cinematographer Jarin Blaschke confirmed that the film had been shot in color, with a look reminiscent of 19th century Romanticism.’”
Well, well, well! That the film will have a 19th century look isn’t terribly surprising, but we are intrigued to hear that Eggers shot the film in color. This is a filmmaker who’s not shy about filming in monochrome (see also: The Lighthouse), and I suppose I figured the same would be the case on Nosferatu. Knowing Eggers, there’s a complicated and well-reasoned through process behind that choice, and we’re sure to hear much more about it once the director launches into Promo Campaign Mode.
There is, of course, no word on when we might actually see Eggers’ latest, but a Sundance 2024 premiere seems as good a guess as any. Or, who knows? Maybe they’ll speed through post-production sooner than expected, and we’ll get to see it before the end of the year. Time will tell!
