The great Steve Buscemi is joining the cast of the much-anticipated second season of Tim Burton and Netflix’s Wednesday, Variety have exclusively reported today.
The Reservoir Dogs, Fargo and The Death of Stalin star joins series lead Jenna Ortega, the titular Wednesday Addams, in the record-breaking hit series which hit Netflix in November 2022.
According to Variety, “exact character details are being kept under wraps, but sources say Buscemi will play the new principal of Nevermore Academy.”
Not much is yet known about the plot details of Wednesday‘s second season; Variety reminds us that the first season ended with Wednesday successfully solving a series of grisly murders while also thwarting an attempt to destroy Nevermore and its students. Season 2 was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes of last year, and last we heard production had moved over to Ireland…
Whether or not other season one stars Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Emma Myers and Gwendoline Christie will return has yet to be confirmed, but we’re almost 100% sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of Fred Armisen’s Uncle Fester (who is rumoured to have his own spin-off in the works…)
Crew-wise, we’ll obviously see executive producer Tim Burton back on board, as well as co-showrunners and exec producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who already have more than a few ideas of how the second season is going to go down. Ortega, who herself is fast becoming a scream queen for the modern age, is also on board as executive producer, promising that season two will ditch the romance and lean way more into horror. Yay!
We’ll bring you more updates on Wednesday, and Buscemi’s role in the show, as soon as we get them.
