MTV’s Teen Wolf series has been off the air for a handful of years, but is anything really dead in the age of streaming? To that end, the cast has been revealed for the upcoming (previously announced) movie on Paramount+ that will serve as a continuation of the series, in addition to some plot details that promise a whole lot of YA monster goodness. But there is a tiny bit of bad news to go along with all of this.

Most of the core cast will be returning for Teen Wolf The Movie, and that’s the good news. Returning players include Tyler Posey as Scott McCall, Holland Roden as Lydia Martin, Shelley Hennig as Malia Tate, Crystal Reed as Allison Argent, Orny Adams as Coach Bobby Finstock, Linden Ashby as Sheriff Noah Stilinski, JR Bourne as Chris Argent, Seth Gilliam as Dr. Alan Deaton, Colton Haynes as Jackson Whittemore, Ryan Kelley as Deputy Jordan Parrish, Melissa Ponzio as Melissa McCall and Dylan Sprayberry as Liam Dunbar.
The bad news is that Dylan O’Brien (Stiles Stilinski), Arden Cho (Kira Yukimura), and Tyler Hoechlin (Derek Hale) are not currently signed on. However, Paramount stressed that additional cast names will be announced. So there is still some hope! As for what the movie is going to be about? Glad you asked! The synopsis reads as follows:
“In Teen Wolf The Movie, a full moon rises in Beacon Hills, and with it a terrifying evil has emerged. The wolves are howling once again, calling for the return of banshees, werecoyotes, hellhounds, kitsunes, and every other shapeshifter in the night. But only a werewolf like Scott McCall (Posey), no longer a teenager yet still an alpha, can gather both new allies and reunite trusted friends to fight back against what could be the most powerful and deadliest enemy they’ve ever faced.”
Airing on MTV from 2011 to 2017, Teen Wolf served as a pretty radical reinvention of the Michael J. Fox movie of the same name. No longer was this a lighthearted story about werewolves and basketball. Rather, it was a YA drama filled with beasts and blood that worked like gangbusters for its devoted audience, which helped push the series all the way to the 100 episode mark. Viewers have remained devoted enough in the years since to warrant this seemingly pricey streaming movie. Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of ViacomCBS Media Networks and MTV Entertainment Studios, had this to say:
“Teen Wolf was a global cultural phenomenon that spawned one of the largest and most loyal fandoms – we are thrilled to partner with the incredibly talented Jeff Davis to reward the fans, reignite this franchise with an original movie, and launch a brand new series WOLF PACK for Paramount+.”
Series creator Jeff Davis is on board to write and executive produce the film. No word yet on who will be in the director’s chair, though it would not be surprising to find Davis in that role as well.
Teen Wolf The Movie does not yet have a release date, but it is currently set to arrive sometime in 2022.
