We’re a ways off from seeing the second season of HBO’s The Last of Us, but the blockbuster series is still very much in operation. With the strikes having ended and both writers and actors free to return to work, it’s time for Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin to start building out the second batch of episodes for their blockbuster series, and today a major piece of that puzzle has fallen into place.
According to Entertainment Weekly, No One Will Save You star Kaitlyn Dever has joined the show’s cast, playing a character that will be very familiar to anyone who played their way through Naughty Dog’s massively popular (and incredibly dark) sequel. Says EW:
“Craig Mazin, who showruns The Last of Us with game co-creator Neil Druckmann, and HBO drama chief Francesca Orsi had previously signaled in interviews that they were eyeing someone to play Abby before the Hollywood strikes. Now Kaitlyn Dever of Booksmart and No One Will Save You notoriety has officially been announced in the role for season 2, HBO confirmed on Thursday.”
Yes, Dever will be playing the role of Abby, a character whose main claim to fame really can’t be discussed without ruining one of The Last of Us 2‘s most shocking moments. Suffice it to say that it’s a very divisive character, one which fans of Naughty Dog’s sequel have been speculating about the casting of ever since The Last of Us S1 wrapped. That’s about all we can say about Abby without getting into spoiler territory.
As previously mentioned, Dever was most recently seen headlining Brian Duffield’s outstanding No One Will Save You, which landed on Hulu back in October. That film, an alien/home invasion movie that unfolds entirely without dialogue (but no small amount of scares) was one of our favorite horror movies of 2023 here at FANGORIA, so we’re psyched to see Dever making the leap from that role to something like this, though we do hope she’s prepared to block a lot of people on social media in the months and years ahead.
Nothing further to report on The Last of Us S2 at this time, but rest assured we’ll be keeping you informed as further updates roll in. Stay tuned for those, folks.
