This morning we’re getting our first look at The Pope’s Exorcist, from Overlord director Julius Avery and the good folks at Sony/Screen Gems. Based in part on Father Gabriele Amorth’s memoir An Exorcist Tells His Story, the film stars Russell Crowe (as Father Amorth), Ralph Ineson (as the voice of the demon Amorth’s wrasslin’ with), Alex Essoe, and Franco Nero (as the Big P himself), and will hit theaters in early April.
Let’s check it out…
As you can see, it appears the Catholics have dispatched Father Amorth to deal with another in a long line of possession cases (according to his memoir, Amorth performed over 1,000 such rites in his career), and this one has all the symptoms of a barn-burner: prophetic visions of religious figures, a kid doing weird things with his eyes, people floating above the ground before being twisted into weird shapes. Crowe’s Amorth will certainly have much to contend with this time around!
Nothing further to report on The Pope’s Exorcist at this time, but if the trailer above’s got you curious, be aware that you’ll be able to see Avery’s film in theaters on April 14th. Stay tuned for more on this one as further updates become available!
