French vampire horror The Vourdalak, from director Adrien Beau, gets an eerie new trailer today ahead of its June 28 theatrical release date.
Oscilloscope Laboratories has picked up U.S. distribution rights for the movie, which is based on Aleksey Konstantinovich Tolstoy’s 1839 gothic horror novella The Family of the Vourdalak – a story that predates even Bram Stoker’s Dracula by over half a century.
Starring Kacey Mottet Klein, Ariane Labed, Grégoire Colin and Vassili Schneider, the plot synopsis for The Vourdalak reads as follows:
When the Marquis d’Urfé, a noble emissary of the King of France, is attacked and abandoned in the remote countryside, he finds refuge at an eerie, isolated manor. The resident family, reluctant to take him in, exhibits strange behavior as they await the imminent return of their father, Gorcha. But what begins simply as strange quickly devolves into a full fledged nightmare when Gorcha returns, seemingly no longer himself…
The Vourdlak premiered at Venice International Film Festival’s International Critics’ Week section, before hitting fests across Europe and in its native France.
Speaking with Variety, Beau – who co-wrote The Vourdalak with Hadrien Bouvier – expressed his excitement at teaming up with Oscilloscope:
I am so excited and honored to have partnered with the amazing team at Oscilloscope for the U.S. release of my debut feature […] The Vourdalak is a film that is meant to be experienced with others and on the big screen, and I am very happy that American audiences will have that opportunity later this month.
