If you happened to catch Madame Web in theaters (I know, I know), you may have caught the highly mysterious and creepily atmospheric first teaser trailer for Ishana Night Shyamalan’s The Watchers. Featuring Dakota Fanning inside a bizarre concrete-and-glass enclosure somewhere in a forest, the teaser leaves viewers with far more questions than answers. Just the way we like it, in other words!
Today, that trailer arrives online. We’ll get to it in just a second, but first: here’s an official plot synopsis:
From producer M. Night Shyamalan comes The Watchers, written and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan and based on the novel by A.M. Shine. The film follows Mina, a 28-year-old artist, who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.
You canโt see them, but they see everything.
Alrighty. Let’s check out the goods…
Yup, that’s just about perfect. Even having read the synopsis, we’re still not entirely sure where this story’s gonna take us, but there’s enough dread and compelling imagery here to ensure that we’ll be checking this one out as soon as it lands in theaters this summer. Here’s hoping the rest of the film’s trailers don’t give too much away!
In addition to Fanning, The Watchers also stars Georgina Campbell (Barbarian), Oliver Finnegan (Creeped Out), and Olwen Fouere (The Northman). Shyamalan scripted in addition to directing, in what is her first feature film project. From the looks of things, she shares some of her father’s talent for evoking a deeply unsettling atmosphere. Consider us sold, The Watchers!
The Watchers hits international theaters on June 5th before opening here in the States on June 7th. Stay tuned for further The Watchers updates as they roll in.
