Seems like every day brings us a new casting announcement for Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2. First, Michael Keaton signed on to return. Then Jenna Ortega climbed aboard the production as the daughter of Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz character. Ryder followed shortly thereafter, alongside Monica Bellucci, the great Catherine O’Hara, and Justin Theroux.
Today? Well, today Willem Dafoe has joined the cast of Burton’s film, playing “a law enforcement officer in the afterlife.” Gotta admit, I’m surprised to learn that there are cops in the afterlife. Bureaucracy and sandworms, sure, but cops? Do they give out tickets? Is there a prison in the afterlife? Once you start following that train of thought, it leads to some strange questions!
As has been the case on all of our reporting thus far regarding Beetlejuice 2, we still don’t know what this movie’s about. With O’Hara and Ryder returning and Ortega playing Ryder’s daughter, it seems safe to assume that some generational hijinks may be afoot this time around, but beyond that it’s anyone’s guess.
As for Dafoe joining the cast: we’ve gotta assume he’ll fit right into whatever bizarro world Burton’s building this time around, and cannot wait to get a look at him in full costume/makeup. Stay tuned for further updates on Beetlejuice 2 as they roll in, gang. We suspect there are plenty more where this came from.
