Depending on where you stand on the issue, the ongoing trend of public domain horror films (which is to say, horror films which are being crafted around iconic characters that have recently entered the public domain) are either a fun, new trend or a startling example of creative bankruptcy in action. But love ’em or hate ’em, they don’t appear to be going anywhere, and one of them – last year’s Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey – has already generated a sequel. That’s right, turning Winnie the Pooh into a scary movie for a second time.

Today bring us the first trailer for the sequel (it was exclusively premiered via IGN), which, like the previous film, is directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield, who went on the record a few months back to confirm that Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 would be working with an expanded budget, one which would allow for bigger kills, better creature/makeup effects, and more.

Very well! Let’s see it in action…

Credit where credit’s due: Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 does, in fact, appear to be a far more polished affair than last year’s original. Sure, this movie’s take on Tigger probably won’t be confused with the photorealistic FX glimpsed in the average summer blockbuster, but there is a marked improvement here, and it certainly looks like Frake-Waterfield and company are having the time of their lives putting these formerly cuddly characters through their suddenly-gory paces. If you enjoy this sort of thing, well, here’s more of it, and now it’s more polished. Are you not entertained?

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 stars Scott Chambers (as Christopher Robin), Tallulah Evans, Ryan Oliva, and Peter DeSouza-Feighoney (as the bloodthirsty Pooh). Written by Matt Leslie and directed by Frake-Waterfield, the sequel does not yet have an official release date, but we gather that one will be along sooner rather than later. Stay tuned for further updates on Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey 2 as they roll in, gang.
