The much-anticipated third season of Showtime’s Yellowjackets is finally in production, after being pushed back by the Hollywood labor strikes of last year.
The Yellowjackets official Twitter/X account shared the news earlier today (seen below), along with some behind the scenes snaps which reveal that the season premiere was written by Jonathan Lisco, Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson, with Nickerson also directing.
The series, which follows a team of high school girls soccer players and their attempts to survive in the wilderness after a devastating plane crash, has proved a huge hit for Showtime, scoring a bunch of Emmy nominations and becoming the second-most streamed series in Showtime’s history behind Dexter: New Blood.
Yellowjackets‘ stacked cast included Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, Juliette Lewis, Ella Purnell, Christina Ricci, Sophie Thatcher and Jasmin Savoy Brown, while the second season introduced the legendary Elijah Wood.
No spoilers, but Season 2 left things on a huge cliffhanger, so we’re desperate to head back to camp and find out just what the hell’s going on (if you’re catching up, don’t forget you can do a retroactive recap with FANGORIA’s The Buzz!)
While the third season won’t be hitting screens until 2025, series co-creator Ashley Lyle confirmed last year that a special bonus episode would provide something of a narrative bridge between seasons two and three, so we’ve got that to look forward to as well.
More updates on Yellowjackets Season 3 as and when we get them!
