Tim Story’s The Blackening hit theaters just last month, whereupon it racked up an impressive 86% on Rotten Tomatoes before tripling its $5M production budget at the box office. By all accounts, this was a horror-comedy worth seeing in theaters, the kinda film that plays best to an energized crowd looking for a rowdy communal viewing experience…
…but maybe you didn’t get the chance to catch The Blackening at your local multiplex. Is there any hope for you? Indeed there is! According to the good folks over at Bloody Disgusting, The Blackening is headed to Premium Video On Demand this Friday.
For those who aren’t already aware, The Blackening centers around “a group of Black friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer. Forced to play by his rules, the friends soon realize this ainโt no motherfucking game.” That plot synopsis might not make Story’s film sound super funny, but trust us – it’s very funny.
So, do yourselves a favor: if you haven’t already had the pleasure, consider giving The Blackening a shot when it hits PVOD this weekend. And if you do take us up on that advice, here’s a little bit more – invite your most horror-obsessed friends over to watch it, and tell them to bring plenty of beer. You’ll have a good time.
