Back in January, Barbarian director Zach Cregger sparked a Hollywood bidding war with the script to his next project, a “horror epic” by the name of Weapons. It call came down to Universal and New Line Cinema, the latter of which won the battle after offering Cregger an elaborate deal involving various guarantees (including a greenlight), “controlling interest in a back-end pot,” and final cut of the film.
Well, it’s five months later, and things are starting to heat up for the project. Yesterday afternoon, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Pedro Pascal, who recently headlined HBO’s massively successful The Last of Us, has joined the cast of Weapons. Shooting is expected to begin this fall.
So, who’s Pascal playing? No idea. What’s Weapons about? Again, no idea. New Line and Cregger remain mum on the details (as before, THR describes the film as “an interrelated, multistory horror epic that tonally is in the vein of [Paul Thomas Anderson’s]ย Magnolia“), but we do know that Weapons will only benefit from Pascal’s excellent screen presence, not to mention his ever-rising popularity, and we’re excited to hear that he’s involved.
Nothing further to report on Weapons at this time, but we’re eager to learn more. Stay tuned for further updates as they roll in, gang. We suspect Pascal will be joined by a few other big names before this thing gets filming.
