Netflix’s mega-hit Wednesday is headed to the Emerald Isle, with Deadline exclusively reporting yesterday that the second season of the Addams Family spin-off show will be filmed in Ireland, with a tentative start date of late April.
The first season of the Jenna Ortega-starring show followed:
“Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy. Wednesday’s attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago โ all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
Details of where Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar and executive producer/director Tim Burton intend to take Season 2 is still tightly under wraps.
Getting Wednesday‘s second season off the ground has been one of Netflix’s top priorities since the end of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, due to the massive, record-breaking success of the first season which hit the streamer in November last year.
Deadline confirms ‘logistical challenges’ as the reason for the second season moving from its original filming country of the suitably-Gothic Romania, which enjoyed a TV tourism boost from fans visiting Wednesday‘s sets.
In what will surely come as exciting news for the horror crowd, Ortega – in her new role as executive producer – has confirmed that Season 2 will be upping the horror and ditching the romance, with the Scream star expressing her frustration that Wednesday’s initial love triangle did not make sense for her character.
Alongside Ortega, the cast also included Gwendoline Christie, Percy Hynes White, Emma Myers, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmรกn. Christina Ricci, one of the most iconic Wednesdays in Addams history, also starred.
