The Last of Us was a hit from the moment it premiered, but each week the viewership numbers for HBO’s flashy new series just keep getting bigger and bigger. Millions of people are tuning in every Sunday to watch Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann’s fungi-infected, post-apocalyptic blockbuster … but would that same number of people tune in during the Super Bowl?
Love it or hate it, the Super Bowl is, on an annual basis, one of the most-watched things on the planet, the sort of event most people absolutely insist on watching live. As a result, it appears the good folks at HBO have opted to move next week’s episode of The Last of Us to Friday evening, where it can be enjoyed without viewers having to worry that they’re missing out on any mind-blowing touchdowns or $10M fast food commercials.
Curiously enough, HBO will also air the episode in its original timeslot (presumably for people who aren’t planning on watching the Big Game but want to maintain their carefully-planned Sunday evening watch schedules), so if Friday evening at 9PM ET doesn’t work for you, well, the original option will remain.
Anyway, we’re obsessed with The Last of Us here at FANGORIA HQ, so we’ll likely be watching on Friday and Sunday. Stay tuned for more on Mazin and Druckmann’s series as further updates become available, gang.
