Not long after we exclusively revealed the cast for her upcoming Christmas horror, So Vam‘s Alice Maio Mackay is back with Bad Girl Boogey, with a new trailer and release date from Dark Star Pictures.
Mackay, who was just 17 years old at the time of production, is one of the most exciting up-and-coming names in queer horror, with the trans filmmaker already boasting five features either under her belt or in production that celebrate LGBTQIA+ folks in horror. Bad Girl Boogey is no different, being described as an “inclusive slasher film proudly representing the queer community.”
Let’s get a load of this plot synopsis:
BAD GIRL BOOGEY follows Angel whose mother was brutally murdered one Halloween night, when blood was shed by a deranged killer wearing a parasitic mask cursed with black magic and bigotry. Sixteen years later, when Angelโs best friend is slaughtered by a killer with the same mask, they must overcome their personal struggles, fight their fear, and find the masked killer before he, or it, slaughters everyone they hold dear.
The supernatural slasher stars Lisa Fanto (Love, Guns & Level Ups), Iris Mcerlean, Chris Asimos, Toshiro Glenn, Lewi Dawson, Kate Bonney with a VERY exciting featured voiceover cameo from horror icon Bill Moseley (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, The Devilโs Rejects). The film was co-written with Ben Pahl Robinson, with Salem Horror Fest director Kay Lynch serving as executive producer.
Bad Girl Boogey will release on digital platforms on July 4, with a DVD release to follow on July 11. Select theaters will also screen the film from July 7 – so keep an eye on your local theater to see if you’ll be lucky enough to catch Bad Girl Boogey on the big screen!
