NOSFERATU

It’s been a long time coming, but the first trailer for Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu has officially arrived from Focus Features to haunt our dreams and suck our blood – and as expected, it looks fantastic.

Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Nicholas Hoult, Lily Rose-Depp, Ralph Ineson, Willem Dafoe and Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok himself, Nosferatu is the fourth feature from Eggers following 2022’s The Northman. The vampire epic hits theaters on December 25 of this year – merry Christmas to us indeed!

Given that Eggers’ take on the F. W. Murnau 1922 classic has been on the back burner with Eggers since at least 2015 (losing cast members like Anya Taylor-Joy and Harry Styles along the way), it goes without saying that anticipation is VERY high for this one.

Incase you’ve no idea what to expect from a Nosferatu movie, Focus Features have described Eggers’ remake as;

“a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”

And from the trailer, it looks like Eggers is once again about to deliver a modern horror classic (is anyone surprised? This guy gave us The Witch and The Lighthouse, after all) and from this trailer it looks like Nosferatu as moody, elegant and creepy as those two.

All the hallmarks of an Eggers classic are here: creepy kids, eerie candle lit rituals and Willem Dafoe being his usual charming self.

We also finally get a glimpse of Skarsgård as the twisted bloodsucker (is that hair we can see?), and Eggers’ words from Empire certainly ring true here:

“I’ll say that Bill has so transformed, I’m fearful that he might not get the credit that he deserves because he’s just… he’s not there. He felt like honoring who had come before him. It’s all very subtle. But I think the main thing is that he’s even more a folk vampire. In my opinion he looks like a dead Transylvanian nobleman, and in a way that we’ve never actually seen what an actual dead Transylvanian nobleman would look like and be dressed like.”

Anyway that’s enough from us, here’s the goods that you’re here for – get ready to meet the Count this Christmas…
