According to a new report over at Deadline, living legend and all-around badass Ron Perlman is set to star in a brand-new horror film by the name of Succubus. Joining him in the cast are the great Roseanna Arquette, Rachel Cook, Olivia Applegate, and Brendan Bradley.

Written and directed by R.J. Daniel Hanna, Succubus tells the tale of…

“…a new father going through a marital separation who joins a dating app and matches with a beautiful but mysterious young womanโ€ฆ whose powers of seduction and manipulation entangle him in a mystery more horrifying than he could have ever imagined.”

Succubus will be distributed by the good folks at Shout! here in North America. Says Shout! Studiosโ€™ Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Originals, Jordan Fields:

โ€œMy favorite horror thrillers are ones that have something to say about human beings, and in Succubus, Daniel has crafted a chilling metaphor for the clutch that screens have on us. This will disturb and resonate, like the best of the genre.โ€

Director Hanna goes even further in his description of the film:

โ€œSuccubus is first-and-foremost a wild and brazen mystery-horror film about the most terrifying series of events that could ever befall a guy who let his nether regions do the thinking for him. But beyond the body horror, which is ample, it also comments on the very real vampire thatโ€™s sucking us all dry โ€” our screens. As our hero is drawn by an online siren into her dark yet enticing world, heโ€™s forced to face all heโ€™s left behind, his whole real, meaningful life beyond the glowing rectangle he keeps in his pocket, and try to find a way back to it.โ€

Well that certainly sounds timely! As of this writing, we’re not sure who Perlman (or anyone else, for that matter) will be playing in the film, but we’re willing to bet the role calls for plenty of sass, maybe even a cigar-smoking scene or two. Whatever the case may be, we’re thrilled to hear that Perlman’s got a new horror movie en route, and will be keeping tabs on Succubus as it works its way through production and onto our screens. Stay tuned for further updates as they roll in!
